District sets packet deadlines and a compressed first-reading process to speed policy updates, pulls educator-assistance items for May

District staff and board leaders presented a formalized policy process intended to accelerate and organize policy updates: Dr. DJ Brown said staff will circulate proposed policy texts two weeks before meetings and asked trustees to return suggested edits by the end of business on the Wednesday before the packet is finalized so counsel can produce a consolidated redline in the packet.

"If you could by the end of the business day on Wednesday, give me all of your revisions or recommendations for those policies prior to the next regularly scheduled board meeting, that'll be kind of be the cutoff time for me to get those and process them," Dr. Brown said, explaining that recommended omissions will be struck through in red and additions bracketed/highlighted for review.

The board decided to pull six policies within section G that implement requirements under the Educator Assistance Act for second reading at the May board meeting so the district can move to compliance quickly; Dr. Brown and Dr. Smith summarized practical accommodations already in place (for example, letters for staff that protect current salaries when budgets are pending, and July confirmation emails to staff about main assignments to satisfy statutory notice windows).

Board members were told the remainder of section G will be scheduled for second reading in June to allow adequate time for review. Trustees emphasized that the first reading should be the place for substantive content debate so the second reading can focus on final edits. The meeting closed after confirming packet deadlines and next steps.
