Mercer County Board celebrates students in arts showcase, names speech and governor-school winners

The Mercer County Board of Education used part of its meeting to recognize student achievements across the district in music, visual arts and speech.
Superintendent Jason Boomer kicked off the district’s third annual arts showcase month and told attendees a full schedule of exhibits and performances will be posted on district social media. Board members and staff presented certificates and yard signs to honorees and invited students forward for a group photograph.
Officials announced Rotary speech contest results: Amber Williams placed third and Emerson Daniels won first place and will advance to regional competition. The board also celebrated five students named to the Governor’s School program and noted alternates who had applied. School music and choir programs earned distinguished ratings at recent assessments, and students advancing to state competitions were singled out for recognition.
The board encouraged the community to attend arts events during the month and thanked teachers and sponsors, including local program sponsors and club advisors. An intermediate school band performed briefly before the board recessed for photos.
The meeting concluded the recognition portion with thanks to teachers, family members and the district’s arts sponsors.
