West Milton considers boosting fireworks budget; Rock the Hill seeks $10,000

At the Feb. 24 West Milton council workshop, community-event organizers outlined funding requests for Rock the Hill and Fourth of July fireworks ahead of the council’s March resolution and budget decisions.
Staff noted the fireworks and community events draw from different line items in the general fund and that, based on current balances, both the $10,000 Rock the Hill request and a $15,000 fireworks request could be covered without increasing the overall budget. The Rock the Hill request (Project Revival) was confirmed at $10,000.
Fourth of July organizers said adverse weather had reduced fundraising this year and requested $15,000 to preserve the traditional display; one councilor proposed increasing the village’s fireworks allocation to $20,000 from the existing budget to provide a buffer for the America 250 centennial celebrations. Council members encouraged volunteer recruitment for event committees and noted the volunteer workload for the parade and fireworks operations.
Council asked staff to prepare a resolution for the March meeting to approve funding; staff agreed to prepare the resolution and related budget details.
