Springfield Township names Randy Miller its new fire chief

Trustees of Springfield Township promoted Randy Miller to fire chief during their meeting this evening, recognizing his 27 years with the township’s fire department and leadership roles in training, prevention and regional emergency coordination.

Christopher Gilbert, the township administrator, summarized Miller’s record: a bachelor’s degree in fire and safety engineering from the University of Cincinnati, a master’s degree in safety, security and emergency management from Eastern Kentucky University, promotions to lieutenant (2002) and captain (2012), oversight of the department’s training and juvenile firesetter intervention program, and service as the department’s representative to the Hamilton County Fire Chiefs Regional Operation Center. Gilbert said Miller has also volunteered with other local departments and the American Red Cross disaster team.

"Please join me in congratulating Chief Randy Miller as the third Springfield Township Fire Chief," Gilbert said. Miller thanked the board and said he looked forward to working with staff and firefighters to provide outstanding service to the community.

The trustees took a group photograph with Miller following the recognition. No formal fiscal or policy vote was tied to the promotion; it was presented as a personnel announcement and acknowledgment of Miller’s leadership and long service.

Miller’s promotion follows a period of turnover and hiring within the township’s public-safety ranks, the administrator said, including recent retirements of previous chiefs and a broader hiring effort to fill vacancies.
