Conservation board: consultants sign modeling and culvert-design contracts; site visit to be scheduled

Acting Chair MJ Martin opened the July meeting and asked the board to hear an update on ongoing engineering work. Consultant Walter Hovingho told the board that two contracts have been signed: one for additional hydraulic modeling (reported as down to “9D”) and another for culvert design plans. “That contract was signed for the additional modeling down to 9D,” Hovingho said.
Hovingho said the modeling team is scheduling field work and expects the site visit and modeling work in late July or early August; he noted the lead engineer is about to go on maternity leave and a colleague who has been involved from the beginning will likely handle the site visit. The board discussed whether representatives should visit the site before modeling is finished or wait until after the modeling results are available.
Board members emphasized the need to move quickly because “we do have a deadline for some of our grant funding,” MJ Martin said, adding that delays could jeopardize a portion of the grant. The board asked staff to coordinate dates with the consultant and with the highway superintendent so representatives and consultants can attend the larger site visit.
The board took no formal vote on the project during the update; members said they expect to schedule a field visit and to review the modeling results once available.
