“Had anyone spoken to her, they would have learned something important,” Uman said, alleging the school accepted a younger student’s statement without verification and then asked the family to discipline their child for an incident the school said it could not investigate. He told the board the result left his daughter feeling unsafe in her neighborhood.
Uman linked the episode to administrative turnover at her campus, saying staff instability reduces institutional memory and harms judgment. He urged the board to require practices that ensure basic fairness: that students be spoken to before being publicly identified and that identification from a yearbook not be used as a substitute for an interview.
Board members and staff noted related agenda items and indicated the district would touch on connected issues in later discussion; no immediate formal remedy was announced in that public session. Trustees also reminded the public that some personnel and legal matters are discussed in closed session and that formal policy changes may be proposed if warranted.
