Council approves rezoning of Dutch Colony area to RS1

The City Council approved a resolution to rezone the Dutch Colony addition and adjacent properties from R1 to RS1 following a public hearing and a Planning and Zoning recommendation.
The public hearing was opened for Exhibit 2. Kurt, representing planning staff, explained the blue highlighted area in the exhibit covers the Dutch Colony addition and that adjacent properties (marked red) were included to be rezoned from R1 to RS1. He said Planning and Zoning recommended approval and noted that local covenants previously caused confusion about whether animals were an allowed use in the area. “Planning and Zoning is recommending city council approve it,” he said.
The council closed the public hearing and moved to approve a resolution to rezone the area. During a roll call the chair recorded: “Brett yes, Darl yes, Olivia yes, Darren yes, and R yes,” and the resolution carried.
The rezoning changes the allowable uses for the affected properties to RS1 standards, which staff said include specified animal limits by acreage. The council did not discuss further ordinance language changes at this meeting; implementation will proceed under RS1 standards unless future council action modifies them.
