Triton board approves resignations, hires and appoints new elementary principal

The Triton School Corporation board approved a slate of personnel changes including resignations, new hires, role changes and an elementary principal appointment.
The board accepted resignations from Melissa Lesher (elementary interim principal), Amy Ferguson (intermediate special-education teacher) and Rick Yarbrough (elementary special-education aide). The superintendent praised Lesher’s leadership, saying she had done “an awesome job” this year, and noted Lesher would continue some curriculum-and-assessment responsibilities during a redistribution of duties.
The board approved several hires and transfers: Greg Pierron as a substitute custodian; Annika Spangle as an instructional assistant; Michaela Odell as a short-term special-education substitute (with Lesher serving as teacher of record because Odell is not licensed); Audrey Kaufman as a substitute instructional assistant; and Glenda Guard as a high-ability teacher paid from the high-ability grant (administration said the grant is roughly $25,000 annually and will fund the high-ability position without increasing base corporation costs).
A board member recused themself from the principal appointment because the candidate is a relative. The board then appointed Mason McIntyre as Triton Elementary School principal provided he completes the remainder of his administrative credentialing; the vote on that appointment was recorded after the recusal.
The administration also recommended extended days for Zach Shafer to provide cross-building support: Shafer will remain on a teacher contract, teach two classes (first and last periods), and spend the middle of the day on counseling support, supervision, data reporting and a computer-science foundations course needed for upcoming curriculum changes. The board approved the extended-duty arrangement.
Other routine approvals included club sponsors (Joel Grindel for DECA; Derek Evelyn and Megan Atkinson for yearbook) and athletic supervisors to ensure event coverage.
What happens next: job postings and onboarding for vacancies; district staff will finalize schedules for Shafer’s split teaching/administrative role and post the Evan Watkins math vacancy to recruit candidates.
