Buildings & Grounds report: field work, bids out for roofs and a $2 million insurance settlement

The Buildings & Grounds Committee received a maintenance report on April 13 that the district had 192 work orders since March 10, with 162 closed and 30 still open, and that crews moved approximately 2,500 cubic yards of dirt at the DHS athletic and band fields to improve low areas.
Maintenance staff reported that DES grass planting occurred over Good Friday and the following Saturday and that sprinkler repairs and watering remain underway. The East Beauregard site completed a propane tank, plumbing and oven replacement and received final approval after inspection: "The East Beauregard propane saga has ended as of today. We are good to go over there. Got a new tank, new plumbing, new ovens...everything looked good to go," maintenance staff reported.
Several bids are currently out and expected to be seen in May: Merryville drainage (bond 2023), Merryville facility updates (2025), East Beauregard facility updates (2025), and roof work at Homewood Elementary, K.R. Hanchey and the Title I/Bus Barn using a polymer topcoat with a 10-year warranty.
In a significant development, maintenance staff said negotiations with ICF and the district's insurer produced an additional $2 million settlement related to Hurricane Laura (2022). "We left here with an additional $2 million from our insurance settlement, which will close this out with the insurance entirety from Hurricane Laura in 2022," the speaker said, adding the funds will go back to AV reserves and should help the district move forward with FEMA work once federal processes resume.
The committee also approved liquidation of fixed assets; staff said the local auction is planned for May 2 and the district will put six buses and two vans up for auction.
Next steps: staff will post bid documents and auction listings on the district's public auction site and continue coordination with ICF and FEMA for remaining recovery steps.
