Triton board adopts GO bond resolutions to fund building maintenance and capital projects

The Triton School Corporation board voted unanimously to adopt two resolutions that clear the way for the district to issue general obligation (GO) bonds and appropriate the proceeds for capital and maintenance projects.
At the meeting the administration described the funded work as routine upkeep and small-scale improvements: preventative maintenance of buildings and grounds, painting and tile refinishing, replacement of outdated furniture, updates to entrance areas and purchases to relieve pressures on operational funds such as school buses. “This bond really allows us to purchase some of those items that are just pretty standard issue within a school corporation of upkeep and preventative maintenance,” an administrator said.
The board first adopted an additional-appropriation resolution—intended to permit the corporation to appropriate funds in the same year the bonds are issued—and then approved the final bond resolution, which the administration said specifies project costs, maximum interest rates, payment dates and the registrar and paying agent for bond repayment. Mr. Riffle, who summarized the resolutions for the board, described the documents as standard financing terms that enable issuance and repayment administration.
Following the bond votes, the board approved several capital contracts that the administration said would be paid in part with bond proceeds: a resurfacing contract for track pole-vault and long-jump areas with Leslie Coating; a custom fencing quote to secure the elementary-to-playground corridor; locker-room shower restoration with Color Built; and building ceiling, flooring and concrete repairs under separate vendor quotes (S&K for ceiling tiles; Concrete Work for concrete repairs; and a floor/tile restoration contract). Each contract was moved and approved by voice vote.
The board heard that campus work will be staged around summer activities: parking-lot crack-filling and sealing is planned after the school year ends but before graduation and summer programs, and large tasks such as ceiling-tile replacement are timed to minimize disruption. The superintendent said the district is fiscally stable and had discussed the projects in recent budget meetings.
What happens next: the board signed the additional-appropriation documents and will proceed with vendor contracting and summer scheduling. The resolutions were adopted by recorded voice vote; the meeting record shows each motion carried by unanimous board votes.
