Scott County commissioners approve hiring ad, request higher per diem, and pass routine payroll/invoice motions

At its May 6 regular meeting the Scott County Board of Commissioners approved several routine motions and set upcoming meetings.

Vice President Randy Julian told the board a part‑time Transfer Station employee resigned and moved to advertise a job opening; Commissioner Adam Bomar seconded and the motion carried 3–0. Julian also moved that the board ask the Council to consider increasing county per diem rates after noting the county meal per diem was $26 per day and mileage reimbursement $0.40 per mile while the state meal per diem exceeds $40; Bomar seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

The board approved a presented Conflict‑of‑Interest Disclosure Form for Councilman John Collins, agreed to move the May 20 meeting to May 21 because Auditor Jennifer Rode Hamelman will attend a conference, and approved regular invoices and payrolls for April 16 and May 1, 2026, along with the April 15 meeting minutes. Each of those motions was moved by Vice President Randy Julian, seconded by Adam Bomar, and passed 3–0.

Separately, Rick Anderson of Veregy followed up on scheduling a joint meeting with the County and City; President Greg Prince said a joint special meeting with the Council will be held May 26 at 6:00 p.m. President Prince also said he hopes to work with the City of Scottsburg on a potential transit system; Chris Wakeman noted grants will soon be available for that project.

The board adjourned after carrying an adjournment motion 3–0.
