The Beach Grove Common Council adopted General Ordinance No. 6, 2025, the city's 2026 budget, after the clerk treasurer read the ordinance into the record and councilors debated a single question about restoring attorney-fee funding.
Clerk Treasurer Samantha Straten recited the ordinance's line items, including a general fund adopted budget of $12,413,939 and total adopted budget amounts for listed funds of $18,929,180. The ordinance recorded an adopted tax levy for all funds of $10,162,000 and an adopted overall tax rate of 1.4517.
A councilor asked whether the council could raise the council attorney fee after publication; staff answered that after advertising a budget the council may lower amounts but cannot increase them. The council passed the budget on second reading by voice vote, 4-3, and later approved the budget on third and final reading by the same margin.
Councilors also asked about a $40,000 line for fire pension obligations; staff explained it covers retirees who continue to receive pension benefits and certain life-insurance policies offered at retirement. No additional budget amendments were adopted at the meeting.
The council's votes on the budget were recorded as 4-3 on both second and third readings. The budget ordinance will be effective per the dates in the ordinance and will guide 2026 appropriations for the city.
