Board approves easements for Comcast and accepts $5,000 Centra sponsorship

The Bedford County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a three-item consent agenda on April 28 that included a facilities easement to Comcast Cable Communications Management, a deed of easement for electric and communication lines across county property at 1172 Effingham Drive in Hendrix Park, and acceptance of a $5,000 sponsorship from Centra’s Department of Community Health to support outdoor recreation and wellness programs.

Staff described the Comcast easement and said the fiber will be run largely on existing poles behind the county gym and under Van Buren Road. County staff and Mr. Kaufman reviewed sketches of the easement routes, and the board was told the work should not interfere with county processes or park facilities. One board member asked whether easements would interfere with a disc golf facility; staff said the lines are being placed on existing poles and are not anticipated to back into the park itself.

Regarding the Centra sponsorship, staff said the $5,000 would help offset costs associated with outdoor events and recreation department wellness programming. The board adopted the consent agenda by motion; a roll call recorded seven yes votes and the motion passed 7–0.

The consent agenda items were presented as routine authorizations for county staff to execute documents; no financial or contract details beyond the $5,000 sponsorship were discussed during the meeting.
