Bedford County board authorizes bids for sheriff’s office addition

Bedford County’s Board of Supervisors on April 28 authorized county staff to solicit bids and award a contract to build an addition to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.
Public Works Director George Capps told the board the design work for the addition is almost complete and staff wants to begin the bidding process to move the project forward after several years of planning. “Yes, tonight we’re asking you to authorize us to put out to bid and then award a contract for the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office addition,” Capps said.
Mr. Johnson moved to approve resolution R042826-04 and the motion passed on a roll call vote. The board recorded unanimous support for the action.
The board did not provide specific cost estimates in the meeting discussion; staff told the board the item had been reviewed previously in a work session and that authorization would let procurement begin. The board’s action authorizes staff to advertise for bids and, once received and evaluated, to award a contract consistent with county procurement rules.
The board’s next steps listed in the meeting were to proceed with the bidding phase and return any contract award to the board as required by policy; no timeline for construction start was given at the meeting.
