The Select Board approved a bid waiver and contract awards to refurbish the town’s 2004 Pierce apparatus and to purchase associated equipment through an existing cooperative/source contract.
Fire leadership explained that replacing the vehicle new would cost roughly $1.2–$1.3 million for a bare chassis and that the department recommended refurbishing the current apparatus and updating onboard equipment to extend its service life 15–20 years. The board was told the refurbishment was budgeted in the Capital Improvement Program and that only one vendor responded to the solicitation; the board approved the sole‑source approach and awarded the refurbishment contract.
The board also approved an equipment purchase under a cooperative contract (vendor MEES) that the department uses for apparatus content and outfitting.
What’s next: The first select is authorized to sign contract documents; staff will proceed with contractual steps and procurement under the approved sole source/cooperative agreements.
