Mount Laurel Council approves consolidated resolutions, sets ordinance hearing; swears in Curtis Green and honors principal

At its Sept. 30 meeting the Mount Laurel Township Council approved a package of consolidated resolutions and completed several ceremonial items.
Council moved to consolidate resolutions 25R190 through 25R205 and put them to a vote. The consolidated slate included a trick-or-treat/curfew resolution, multiple purchasing resolutions required for auditors, purchase of a budgeted ambulance, annual cancellation of outstanding checks, acceptance of a $200,000 state grant earmarked for the police department, a fair-share/resolution release recommended by the township engineer, renewal of a lease with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, a change order for the local road program, and acceptance of $175,000 from Burlington County toward the township splash pad. Council members moved, seconded and recorded affirmative votes to approve the consolidated resolutions.
The council also approved an ordinance first-reading motion to amend Mount Laurels land-development checklist (ordinance publication date set for Oct. 7, 2025; public hearing set for Nov. 17, 2025). The motion to set dates for publication and hearing was moved and seconded and carried with council members present voting in the affirmative.
Ceremonial business at the start of the meeting included a proclamation honoring Tony Katani, principal of Lenipe High School, for being named the National High School Principal of the Year for 2025'026. The mayor read the proclamation and council presented it to Katani, who thanked the council and said he felt fortunate to serve the students: "I'm just really lucky to serve your children," Katani said.
The council also swore in Curtis Green as a new council member; Assemblywoman Carol Murphy administered the oath. After being sworn in, Curtis Green said he was honored to serve and noted his prior service on the local board of education and work as a chaplain for the police department: "It's an honor and a privilege. I don't take the service lightly," he said.
After the public-comment exchange and other comments, council adopted resolution 25R206 authorizing a brief closed executive session to discuss pending and anticipated litigation, contract negotiations and personnel matters; the council reconvened and adjourned the meeting after the closed session.
