Mayor Taylor opened the May 26 Town Commission meeting by reading a proclamation designating June 2026 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month for the Town of Oakland, citing Stonewall and the town’s commitment to inclusion. The proclamation urged support for residents regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or disability.
The meeting also featured police department recognitions. The Oakland Police Department presented a Community Service Award to SRO Officer Samario Lake for organizing and personally supplying 400 plastic eggs and appearing in a chicken costume at an April 3 Easter egg hunt for pre-K students at Oakland Avenue Charter School. The department also named Officer Samario Lake its Officer of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2026 in recognition of her community-oriented policing, participation in recruit orientation, field training duties, and assistance to colleagues.
“Officer Samario Lake is hereby awarded the Oakland Police Department’s Community Service Award,” a department presenter said, and later noted she is the department’s officer of the quarter for Q1 2026. Commissioners and staff praised Officer Lake’s visibility and engagement in neighborhoods.
No formal action was required for the proclamation or awards beyond the presentations. The items were presented near the start of the meeting and proceeded without public comment.
