Selectmen approve reappointments and small administrative items, waive fire-department permit fees and set Oct. 6 special meeting

At its Sept. 24 meeting the Stonington Board of Selectmen handled a slate of routine administrative items: reappointing members, approving a permit-fee waiver for the borough fire department, assigning a street number and calling a special town meeting for Oct. 6.
The board reappointed Robert Olrich to the WPCA (moving from alternate to regular member), reappointed James Stanton and Stephen Adams to the Zoning Board of Appeals, and moved Raymond Desault from a regular member to an alternate on the ZBA; all motions carried. The board also acknowledged the resignation of Elizabeth Broman from the Architectural Design Review Board and thanked her for service.
The board voted to waive two building permit fees (one for $121 and one for $757) for the Stonington Borough Fire Department’s HVAC project after a motion and second; members said waivers of this type are customary for the town’s fire department. The board approved assigning 84 Mistuxet Avenue (map/lot cited) as a street-number assignment in Mystic.
Finally, the board approved a resolution calling a special town meeting Oct. 6, 2025, to consider multiple items including property-tax-exemption language for veterans (TDIU and Gold Star considerations), updates to parking and traffic ordinances, and other municipal resolutions.
Votes on the administrative items were unanimous unless noted; the board indicated several items will also go before the town at the Oct. 6 special meeting.
