Wes-Del board approves donations, stipends, summer staffing and 20-cent lunch increase

School meals and summer programs: Business and food-service staff recommended a $0.20 per-meal price increase for the 2026'27 school year to offset CPI-related food-cost increases; trustees approved the adjustment. Board members asked about making district meals universally free under the Community Eligibility Provision and staff said eligibility depends on demographics (CEP thresholds) and overhead considerations (salaries and benefits) and that staff would return with cost and feasibility numbers. The board also approved teacher assignments for summer school (named teachers for K-5 and subject areas) so the district can submit staffing to the state for reimbursement.
Field trip, transfers and contracts: The board approved the elementary Camp Summit field trip (donor support reduced student costs) and passed a resolution revising transfer-student enrollment language that sets a June 30 preferred request deadline and requires review of disciplinary histories from sending districts. Trustees also approved two-year renewals for five administrative contracts (high-school and elementary principals/assistants and athletic director) including a $1,200 annual cellphone stipend ($100 monthly).
Policy updates: The board heard first readings of 11 updated policies and administrative guidelines covering school wellness, responsible use of technology (including state-driven "bell-to-bell" wireless-device considerations), internal controls, purchasing/capital-asset thresholds (raised to $5,000), crowdfunding vetting and other finance and personnel procedures. No final action was required on those first readings; the board will consider formal adoption in later meetings.
