Culpeper County celebrates CTE signing day and student achievements

Culpeper County Public Schools used its May 11 board meeting to highlight student accomplishments from career and technical education programs and to recognize local business partners.
Instructional staff summarized the "3E" accountability categories—employment, enlistment and enrollment—and showed how points are awarded for credentials, AP/dual-enrollment coursework and ASVAB results. Mr. Halman said the division’s tracking work spans multiple cohorts and noted robust employer involvement in work-based learning and job fairs that feed into the signing day outcomes.
The division staged its seventh annual CTE signing day this year. According to the instructional report, 74 students signed letters of intent to move into careers, continue higher education or enlist in the military. Mr. Halman highlighted examples including students signing into medical fields and technical roles, and several students who enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and Navy.
The board also recognized businesses on the Virginia School Boards Association business honor roll for supporting the division: Kona Ice (representatives Maria Lishak and Tanya Turki), Little Caesars (Linda Gil) and Tractor Supply (Christina Nagahiro and Kaylee Ward). Board members praised the partnerships and the role community employers play in helping students transition to employment.
"Employment is by far our largest point category," Mr. Halman said, summarizing the significance of placing students into high-quality jobs or training.
The board’s public acknowledgments closed with praise for teachers, advisors and families who supported the students. No formal actions beyond the recognitions were taken during that agenda segment.
