Public works outlines winter-storm response as mayor announces donated fire truck

Public Works Director Jason Miles briefed commissioners on preparations for a winter storm expected to bring light snow Saturday morning and heavier, icier conditions by Saturday afternoon into Sunday. Miles said crews have prepared brine solutions, scheduled two response teams (blue and red) to cover shifts, and will stage generators at major intersections if traffic signals are affected. "The big push will come Saturday ... that's when we'll see more impacts to the roads," Miles said, adding that ice is of particular concern because it causes more hazardous driving conditions.
Miles said staff will issue public releases if services (such as trash collection) need to be suspended and encouraged residents to monitor the National Weather Service and city channels for updates. He also noted the city is coordinating with BrightRidge on possible power impacts.
Later in the meeting, the mayor announced that local donor Carol Lawler had donated a fire truck to the city; the mayor asked staff and the public to celebrate the donation and acknowledged the benefit to public safety.
Officials closed the meeting after the announcements.
