A commission member described the project as "detrimental to the Raritan Bay and sea life" and said the pipeline proposal includes a compressor station sited near a trap-rock quarry in Franklin, which the speaker called a problematic location because of blasting and ground-shaking in the area. The member said the resolution will be forwarded to council; council members will determine whether to introduce and vote on it.
The speaker emphasized that dozens of New Jersey municipalities have already signed similar opposing resolutions and urged the commission to add Ocean Township’s voice to that list. The commission did not take a final vote on the resolution at the Sept. 4 meeting; members agreed to pass the text along to the township council for formal consideration.
Next steps: staff (Norm) will forward the proposed resolution to council leadership for possible introduction; the council will be the body that votes on any municipal resolution. The commission expressed unanimous support for the resolution in principle and asked staff to track council action.
