Julia Arce, field representative for Congressman Robert Garcia, presented a ceremonial check to the Belfflower City Council and said the congressman secured $250,000 in community-project funding to renovate the Sims Park Community Center.
Arce described the award as part of the congressman’s community-project requests and said the funds will support auditorium improvements, upgraded recreation rooms and other critical facility upgrades. "This project will help transform the auditorium, improve the recreation rooms, and provide various critical upgrades throughout the facility," Arce said.
Council thanked the congressman’s office and staff who identified and advanced the request. Staff said the payment presented was a funding installment and that city staff and council would coordinate on project scope, timeline and next steps for design and contracting.
Council did not take a separate vote during the meeting on the allocation; staff will manage the project within existing capital/facility processes and report progress to the council.
