Verona Zoning Board carries two applications amid August quorum concerns

At the July 10 meeting the Verona Zoning Board of Adjustment agreed to carry two pending applications because of scheduling and quorum concerns.
The board granted a request from the Islamic Center of Essex County to carry Application 2025-02 (544 Bloomfield Avenue / 10 Park Place) to the board's regular September meeting on Sept. 18; counsel confirmed the carry could be made without further notice. Separately, a use-variance application for Grove Avenue (Application 2025-04271) was carried to August because several members indicated fewer than seven members would be available for a full hearing on July 10; the board asked staff to confirm attendance for the August 14 meeting and warned the month could be canceled if a quorum cannot be assembled.
Board members discussed that some August cases require a full seven-member panel (for change-of-use variances), while others can be heard with a smaller quorum; staff said it will send an attendance poll and follow up by email. No public comment was taken on these scheduling matters.
