The Catskill Planning Board on Jan. 27 held open a building-permit application for a pergola at 113/115 Main Street after members raised concerns about shipping containers stored on the property.
Damon Digivanni, speaking on behalf of 113 Main St LLC, told the board he had begun the pergola and was directed to stop by Building Inspector Mike Ragaini, who advised him to bring the matter to the planning board. Planning Board member Michele Pulver noted that shipping containers were on the site and stated they are not allowed in that zoning district.
The board directed Digivanni to return with a proposal to remove or encase the containers; until the containers are addressed the board will not approve the pergola. Members noted that if the proposed pergola does not meet setback requirements the applicant may need to seek a variance from the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Chair Gilbert Bagnell said he would follow up with the applicant by email to clarify next steps. The board deferred the permit decision and will consider the matter again once the applicant submits a remediation proposal.
