The South Dennis Historic District Commission approved an application to remove a side picture window and replace a barn door at 34 Duck Pond Road during its July 17 meeting.
Justine Coppenrath, representing homeowner Karen D'Amour, told the commission the picture window is a non-opening feature used for interior light that is difficult to view from the street because the house sits on a one-way road and the window is partially hidden by vegetation. Coppenrath said the barn door included in the same application will be rebuilt "exactly the same as it is now."
Commission members confirmed the house’s siding will remain shingle and asked for a shop drawing for the barn door. "Could you please furnish us with some type of shop drawing or any type of..." a board member requested; Coppenrath said the documents could be supplied to staff.
After hearing no public comment, a commissioner moved to accept the application as presented and the motion carried with the board indicating approval.
The approval is procedural: the commission required that the barn door documentation be filed or dropped off with staff and that the siding and exterior materials remain as described in the application. The application will be closed unless follow-up materials show a need to revisit the matter.
