County commissioners honor Lower Township as Volunteers in Medicine 'Community Partner of the Year'

Commissioner Andrew Bulicowski read a proclamation and presented an award naming Lower Township Volunteers in Medicine’s Community Partner of the Year for 2025, saying, “It was an honor to accept this award.” The presentation was delivered by Commissioner Wikowski and Commissioner Bar and recognized township partnerships on health and open-space projects.
Council members thanked the county representatives for helping accelerate local street paving and supporting the Dave Douglas Park open-space project. A resident who spoke during public comment thanked council and Administrator Laffy for the township’s work and praised ongoing county coordination.
Mayor Cipple and council members used the public-comment and council-comment portions of the meeting to highlight upcoming and recent community events. Mayor Cipple reminded residents that election day is the next day and detailed Veterans Day events scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8, with a parade beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Villas firehouse and a separate VFW ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Administrator Laffy noted that several local businesses are offering Veterans Day discounts and that foot passengers with proper military ID will ride the Cape May ferry for free on Veterans Day.
Council members also praised volunteers who organized the township’s recent haunted-trails event, reporting an estimated attendance of about 1,500 to 1,800 people and thanking businesses that provided staffing and food. Deputy Mayor Kums congratulated the Lower Cape Regional football team on its first playoff win and singled out individual contributors.
The meeting closed after brief additional thanks to volunteers and presentations of the award.
