The Ocean Township Board of Adjustment granted retrospective relief to maintain an expanded driveway at 50 L Drive after testimony established the driveway was widened to tie into a newly approved attached garage.
Jonathan Wolf, the project's architect, and a homeowner representative explained that an attached garage had been approved and built, and that a subsequent driveway connection exceeded the 20-foot maximum driveway width at the street line by flaring to 35.5 feet near the garage. The applicant said the driveway configuration facilitated vehicle maneuvering into two separate garage bays and that cutting back the width would require removing a mature tree or otherwise impede access.
Board professionals testified there were no significant engineering or grading concerns related to the submitted grading plan, and that lot-coverage limits were within ordinance allowances (existing/proposed lot coverage about 28.4% where 65% is permitted). After public testimony closed, the board recorded affirmative votes to approve the variance request.
The board conditioned approval on standard plan-review details and required any final exhibits to be provided for the memorialization record.
