Parks staff updated the Upper Allen Township Park & Recreation Advisory Board on May 28 about the township’s 175th anniversary programming, a new parks web signup tool and summer operations.
Staff member Kim said the township has held three anniversary speakers so far, with additional events planned this fall, and noted a commemorative 175th blanket is on sale. Kim told the board that 489 residents registered for the department’s new web-based parks signup in the first week and a half after launch.
The parks department confirmed the pool will operate daily starting June 9 for the summer season; staff also reported hiring roughly 125 seasonal employees and reviewed enrollment figures for spring programs (for example, 86 participants in the youth track program). Parks staff said weather-related delays have affected mowing schedules and some trail maintenance; crews will remobilize to address settled fence holes and low-lying wet spots at Generations Park once conditions dry.
Events scheduled include monthly Food Truck Fridays, 'Art in the Park' on June 29 at Winding Hill Park North and a movie night at Friendship Park on July 11. Staff asked the advisory board to provide recommendations for which Generations Park features to prioritize in next year’s budget; board members said trails and a senior area should be the near-term focus.
The advisory meeting did not record votes on program budgets; staff were asked to supply cost estimates for infrastructure elements to inform commissioners during the fall budget process.
