Adelanto moves forward with $525,000 solar‑powered lighting and camera contract

The Adelanto City Council voted to award a $525,000 professional services agreement to Technology Cross Consulting Inc. for a citywide installation of solar‑powered smart lighting poles and integrated cameras.
City staff said four proposals were received and that Technology Cross’s $525,000 proposal best met the city’s requirements; the work will be funded partially by the Park Development Fund and by the Adelanto Public Utility (water) fund so “there will not be impact on general fund,” staff said.
"Lighting up the city puts a light on what's going on around the area," Councilor Mesa said, emphasizing public‑safety benefits for residents and first responders. Staff said locations will be identified after contract award and that the installation will not draw from the city’s electricity supply because units are solar powered.
A caller supported the project and suggested fixtures include downward shields near raptor habitat and to avoid pointing lights into residential windows; staff acknowledged the input and said pole locations and light shielding will be considered in site selection.
Council members unanimously approved the item; staff will negotiate final locations and return with a construction schedule once the contract is executed.
