The Franklin School Committee held an extended recognition segment celebrating student achievement and staff retirements.
Laura Evans, director of world languages, described the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy and said 71 Franklin students have earned the distinction over time; 17 students were honored tonight and four received the seal with distinction for higher demonstrated proficiency. She listed recipients and languages represented, noting the seal becomes part of the students’ permanent transcript.
The committee then recognized dozens of retiring staff members from business office personnel to teachers, nurses, ESPs and transportation staff. Speakers read tributes noting years of service, roles and personal anecdotes. The acknowledgments covered accounts payable clerk Debbie Pitman (more than 30 years), assistant school business administrator Debbie Irvine, multiple special-education van drivers, human-resources and technology staff, and numerous classroom educators and ESPs across elementary, middle and high schools. The district gathered for a group photograph and took a brief recess.
The recognition segment also included routine announcements about upcoming events: graduation scheduled for June 6, kindergarten visitation statistics, field days and other end-of-year celebrations across schools.
