Midlothian trustees hear demolition update, staffing news and program delay

Department heads provided several operational updates at the Midlothian village board meeting.
Chief Freedom said three probationary firefighter candidates were taken off probation on Jan. 8 and publicly commended Janine for assisting a resident during a medical emergency, saying she "went above and beyond the expectation" and "she cares." Chief Freedom said the department posted the milestone on Facebook and that the new firefighter is already making an impact.
Chief Freedom also reported that a program referred to in the transcript as the "soul leasing" program remains delayed while staff seeks additional information; the transcript term may be a transcription error and the board did not provide further clarification during the meeting.
Engineer Plat reported that demolition of the village-owned building on 147th Street has started, that the initial phase experienced a few hiccups but has since proceeded smoothly, and that debris clearance is expected to finish by the end of next week. The village will place temporary gravel where the building stood until a permanent solution for the property is determined.
Other department heads (Chief Delaney, the Agent Superintendent and Superintendent Swanson) reported no items. Clerk Moscow reminded trustees that village hall will be closed on Monday for Martin Luther King Day and asked that agenda items be submitted by the end of day Friday.
