Kewaskum plan commission approves scoreboard and fence sponsorship signage with conditions

The Village of Kewaskum Plan Commission on April 28 approved sponsorship signage for athletic facilities, accepting donated scoreboards and permitting sponsor panels on scoreboards and fences with specified conditions.
Staff recommended recognizing the donated scoreboard as an approved structure and allowing sponsor signage as part of the structure on fields three and four. The commission approved the scoreboard signage provided that the elevation of the new signs matches the existing signs, sponsor panels are sized as proposed (three-foot-by-eight-foot panels), and lighting on field 4 is configured so that illumination does not project to the south. Staff also required that future modifications return to the plan commission for review.
A representative of the sponsorship applicant told the commission the effort has raised funds for installation: "We've spent now $12,000 on the board so far and we have another $8,000," the presenter said, describing funds to support the installation and associated work.
On fence signage, commissioners approved temporary 4x6 banners to be placed on perimeter fencing, with content controls to prohibit vulgarity and a requirement that banners not exceed the height of the fence. Because the fence banners are temporary, the commission set an annual expiration of October 31 to cover the spring and summer playing seasons; staff will review the program and return to the commission as needed.
Both motions were approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Staff noted donated scoreboards become village property and are placed on village insurance; the village will assume maintenance responsibilities once accepted.
