Board seeks details after DPW says some bridge projects qualify for state program; town may cover others

At the Nov. 24 meeting the Town administrator reported a discussion with the DPW director about which local projects might qualify under the state bridge program and which likely would not.
The Town administrator told the board that Cartland Tunnel, Snell and the Old Mill Road bridge would "fall under the state program," while the tunnel-road culvert near the former Randy Stevens' residence and the "stepping stone" culvert probably would not. "The state treats those the same," the Town administrator said in describing the DPW director's guidance.
Board members pressed for clarity on whether the figures discussed represented total project costs or only the town's share. One member asked whether the town's expected share would be 20%, noting that such a share would materially change local budgeting and prioritization. Staff agreed to request harder figures from the DPW director to determine the town's exposure.
The board separated the projects that likely qualify for state funding from those that likely do not and instructed staff to get detailed breakdowns for the next meeting so the board can assess capital-funding needs.
