Canton board approves highway truck purchase, supports 14 AOT resolutions and moves budget funds

The Canton Town Board on Jan. 14 approved a series of routine but consequential actions, including authorizing the purchase of a new highway vehicle, moving recreation funds into the parks contractual account, approving surplus equipment sales and appointing an alternate to the planning board.
The board voted to support 14 resolutions presented by the Association of Towns in a single motion; one board member recorded an opposition. The chair said the board would make the resolutions available to the public in the board packet on the website.
The board approved a budget amendment to move recreation funds from contingency into parks and recreation contractual expenses to reflect an anticipated contract with the village. The motion passed after a public roll-call-style assent with at least one recorded opposition noted during the vote.
Members also approved permission for the highway superintendent to sell surplus equipment (itemized in the agenda as a 1975 Rogers lowboy trailer, a 1999 Hudson trailer and a 2015 Chevy pickup box); proceeds will be returned to the highway equipment account for future purchases.
The board appointed Ian Mckeler as an alternate member of the planning board; the motion was made by Brown and seconded by Cuthbert and carried.
Finally, the board voted to authorize the highway superintendent to purchase a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD with plow. The chair said roughly $55,000 would come from the equipment account, and the remainder would be covered by transfers from disaster-relief/FEMA reimbursements when available. The chair noted a first FEMA reimbursement for road work was received and that delivery of the truck may take several months; a formal transfer resolution will be prepared when payment is due.
Next steps: the board entered executive session to discuss a contract after completing these votes.
