Board approves new Dwit principal and greenlights no-cost AI safety pilot

The Cuyahoga Falls City School District board approved the appointment of Rebecca House as principal of Dwit Elementary School at its May 27 meeting and authorized up to 10 days of paid consultant work before July 27 to support the transition.
Dr. Celico summarized House’s credentials, noting her administrative experience in nearby districts and certifications. House told the board she is eager to join the community and build on Dwit’s existing strengths.
Separately, the board agreed to pursue a no-cost pilot of an AI camera-augmentation system called Volt. Safety coordinator Mr. Hutch described the proof-of-concept: the vendor will analyze up to 30 live camera streams to detect anomalies the system is trained to flag — examples include weapons, fights, people in restricted areas and medical events. Mr. Hutch said the pilot is a low-cost way to evaluate capabilities and limits before any purchasing decision.
Board members asked for details on testing protocols, police participation and privacy safeguards; administration said staged tests (including police-assisted demonstrations) are planned and that any broader deployment would return to the board for policy review and procurement approval.
What’s next: Rebecca House will begin transitional consulting as authorized and administrators will run the Volt pilot over the summer and report findings and recommendations to the board.
