Cuyahoga Falls honors retiring educators and celebrates student who won congressional art competition

Cuyahoga Falls City School District used its May 27 meeting to highlight long-serving staff and student achievement.
Art teacher Jennifer Schulman introduced senior artist Maya Chararma, whose mixed-media work 'Art History' was named the 13th-district winner in the Congressional Art Competition. Schulman said Maya’s piece will hang for a year in the Cannon Tunnel in Washington, D.C., and the student was invited to the opening on June 25.
The meeting then moved into a multi-hour retiree recognition. The district honored dozens of retirees from multiple schools — including teachers, counselors, custodians and administrative staff — with testimonials from principals and colleagues. Administrators noted the group’s combined service of about 1,003 years and recognized milestones such as 47 years for a first-grade teacher at Dwit and 37 years for a high-school counselor.
Board members and presenters emphasized the retirees’ impact on school culture, classroom continuity and community relationships. "You leave behind a district that is more resourceful, more inspired, and certainly more joyful because of your service," one presenter said during the tributes.
What’s next: The board acknowledged the emotional close of Preston Elementary (last students leave tomorrow) and thanked families and community members for attending end-of-year events.
