Allison Wind, executive director of the Abington Community Library, presented her annual state report to the borough and highlighted a sharp local demand for services: the library recorded "more than 103,000" visits in 2025 and reported offering "more than 12,200 programs" during the year, she told the council.
Wind said the visitor number may be understated because the automated door counter undercounts traffic; she estimated actual visits could be closer to 110,000. She also said the library does not charge late fines systemwide but still requires payment for lost items.
Wind said she received an unexpected cut of roughly 40% in her collection budget this year and asked the public to consider donations to support books, DVDs and circulating "experience kits" such as musical instruments and learning tools. "This year we really need people to give donations so we can buy more books, DVDs," Wind said.
The director announced revised operating hours that will take effect Monday, June 1: Monday–Thursday 9 a.m.–8 p.m., Friday 9 a.m.–7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.–5 p.m., and Sunday 2 p.m.–5 p.m. She also previewed the library’s SummerQuest reading program beginning June 22 and asked council members to share program flyers with constituents.
Wind said she has been visiting municipal partners to summarize services and spur local support. The council did not take any formal action; Wind’s requests were presented for council information and community outreach.
