"My second to last meeting as mayor: I am resigning as of December 31st this year," the mayor said, calling the job “the hardest thing I’ve ever done but also the most rewarding."
The mayor described the decision as bittersweet and urged the board to appoint Pat, praising the deputy mayor’s steadiness and work ethic. "I have asked them to please consider my request to appoint Pat ... he puts in more time than any of us," the mayor said. The mayor said the board can choose when to swear in the successor and suggested a brief ceremony on Dec. 31 or another date the board prefers.
Board members responded with congratulations and thanks. One member said the village is in “better hands” and the board discussed logistics for submitting a formal resignation letter at the next meeting and scheduling a special meeting or quick noon ceremony on Dec. 31 for a swearing-in and routine check run.
