The drive is scheduled to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; residents may drop off nonperishable food and household items during the stated hours.
Frequently requested food donations include cereal, boxed mashed potatoes, canned fish and meat, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter and jelly, and powdered milk. Donors were asked to check expiration dates. Zavachia also listed useful nonfood items: paper towels, toilet paper, dish detergent, and shopping bags.
The pantry also accepts financial donations and store gift cards, which township staff will use to purchase perishable items that are not normally stocked. Zavachia encouraged organizers to include a food drive in community events but asked they contact Randolph Community Services in advance to confirm current pantry needs and capacity.
She warned that there may be times when the pantry cannot accept large donations because of space limitations and suggested that groups with very large donations consider donating to larger food banks such as the interfaith food pantry instead. Residents who require food assistance were directed to contact the community service department; staff will provide a checklist of available items and arrange scheduled bagged pickups at the community center.
“Please remember that some of our friends and neighbors are less fortunate than us right here in Randolph. And no one should go hungry,” Zavachia said, closing the announcement.
