Council approves cleanup contracts, fencing and intergovernmental work at former tent city site

The council on May 27 approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Fox River Water Reclamation District and a first amendment with ATI Restoration LLC to support cleanup, tree removal, fencing, and related site work at the former tent city property.
Council member Ortiz asked whether the entire old encampment would be fenced after the work; staff said the plan includes a continuous chain-link fence extending from north of Kimble Street to the forward property south of Frasier and that partner agency work will reduce underbrush which has impeded efforts to prevent re-encampment.
The council approved the intergovernmental agreement and the ATI Restoration amendment by roll call. Staff said they were not aware of instances where the existing fence had been cut; forward property owners have reported intrusion incidents and the additional cleanup and fencing are intended to reduce reoccupation and safety hazards at the location.
Next steps include executing the agreement and coordinating cleanup and fencing work with the reclamation district and ATI Restoration under the city's contract oversight.
