One participant noted problems when their attorney could not locate the municipal codes and urged a searchable, user-friendly online code system. "I think that could be huge…it's important that it's online so we make it user friendly," the participant said.
The board heard about Cloud Permitting, an app-based platform that can handle violations, building permits, dog licenses and online payments while providing contractor and homeowner communications. Members asked staff to gather price and implementation information.
Communications options drew extended discussion. The board pays roughly $3,300 for a Nixel subscription; members said Nixel shows about 200 active push users and about 2,200 imported phone records, complicating per-user cost calculations. Some members suggested coordinating with the village's Facebook presence and shared platforms used by neighboring municipalities to expand reach.
The board asked the clerk to compile a short summary of how Nixel works and requested comparisons to other platforms so they can decide whether to renew or change their communications approach later in the year.
