The Village of Ellenville board discussed the municipal golf course's finances, marketing and potential future options, including leasing, management contracts or sale.
Staff and trustees described efforts to improve marketing (website updates, signage and clearer branding), proposals to establish differentiated local and nonlocal rates, and options including a management contract or lease. Staff noted most successful municipal course leases are for larger, 18‑hole facilities and cautioned that a sale would be complicated by parkland alienation rules: any sale of parkland would require an act of the New York State Legislature and could take up to two years to secure authority.
Board members also raised the importance of having a restaurant or dining amenity on site for league events and social gatherings; speakers said operational revenue could be affected if the restaurant is not functional. Staff suggested separating golf course finances into its own fund to track revenues and expenses, but warned that making the course a separate fund could complicate transfers to the general fund.
The board did not take a final vote on long‑term disposition; discussion focused on improving operations for the coming season and on the legal constraints and costs around any potential sale.
