Clinton Avenue Bridge work expected this summer; protected‑species checks and water‑main routing under review

Village staff updated trustees on the Clinton Avenue Bridge replacement project, reporting the work is currently scheduled for early August but may slip into September depending on field conditions and coordination.

Staff said engineers asked for protected‑species follow‑up (bats and snakes were cited) and referenced that updated assessments are required on a five‑year cycle; staff did not expect the assessment to cause a long delay because a recent assessment had been filed within the last five years. A second technical issue involves a water main that interacts with the planned pile locations; staff and engineers are evaluating whether to carry the main under the bridge or reroute it, and they described the decision as within the project scope and not expected to add an extraordinary cost.

"We are on track for August; I could see it slipping into September which again creates more [complications]," the Village Manager said when summarizing the timeline and contingency planning. The board also discussed bus routing for school children and coordination with the superintendent should any schedule slips occur.

What comes next: staff will continue coordination with the project engineer, Delaware Engineering (reference later in the meeting for water projects), and report schedule changes to the board as they are known.
