Commissioners discussed traffic-calming options for Raven Drive after a recent crash in which speed was raised as a concern. Chief Matt and public works staff said they ran a two-week raw-data speed survey (with the speed-feedback signs left on to capture true behavior) and recorded two vehicles traveling at an enforceable speed (over 35 mph) during that period. Residents, however, continue to perceive speeding as a problem.
Staff and commissioners reviewed past use of temporary rubberized speed humps, noting those devices were often dislodged, damaged pavement and were not always sited effectively. Marie (public works) explained that properly constructed asphalt speed humps are permanent, must be sited using a traffic study and can be plowed in winter. The township paused permanent installations while sewer construction (North Ren project) is ongoing and will coordinate final placement with the police and public works when the project is complete.
The board agreed to place recommended signage and traffic-calming options on future agendas for final placement decisions; no enforceable speed-limit change was adopted at the workshop.
