The Cortland Common Council approved an amendment to the city’s 2024 adopted budget and discussed the calendar for departmental budget review sessions ahead of the November public hearings.
The agenda listed an amendment to the 2024 budget for an amount shown in the record with two closely matching figures (the agenda text contains both $77,504 and $77,550 in different lines). Staff said the numbers in the supporting table are correct and that the amendment is a technical adjustment of transfers already described in accompanying documentation. Council members accepted the explanation and the item proceeded.
Council also reviewed the proposed budget calendar: the mayor will submit the proposed budget on Oct. 15, with department review sessions scheduled Oct. 22 and 24 and finance review Oct. 29 (and a possible Oct. 31 session if needed); the council plans to set a public‑hearing date and proceed with hearings in November and December as required by the budget law.
Councilors asked staff for a comprehensive review of multi‑year grants and reimbursements so the finance office can confirm what grant funds remain to be claimed and which projects are complete. Auditors are scheduled to finish work on fiscal year 2023 closeout in the coming weeks.
