Council approves two variances for Deer Creek lots after planning commission recommendation

The Temple City Council voted to approve two variance requests Dec. 1 that will allow construction on two otherwise unbuildable Deer Creek lots affected by recent buffer ordinances.
Seth Brown, representing DBA Holdings LLC (Direct Residential), explained that the lots were platted in the early 2000s and that subsequent adoption of 50- and 75-foot buffers placed most of each lot in protected area, leaving them effectively unbuildable. Brown said the planning commission reviewed the applications and recommended approval.
Council members moved to uphold the planning commission recommendations and approved both variances by unanimous voice votes (recorded as 5-0). No members of the public spoke in opposition during the hearings for either variance.
Council recorded motions to approve each variance following the public hearings and the planning commission’s recommendation. Implementation will proceed via the city's permitting process, subject to any site-specific conditions the planning staff imposes.
