Officials warn of major summer road closures and long I-74 bridge work in Harrison

At the May 19 meeting, Council member Mr. Nair outlined a string of transportation projects and closures residents should expect this summer.
Mr. Nair said Carolina Trace will be closed to through traffic for roughly 45 days beginning the Tuesday after Memorial Day to allow full-depth repairs, water-line tie-ins and installation of required turn lanes for subdivisions. He warned residents returning from out of town to prepare alternate routes.
He also said Dry Fork Bridge on I-74 will close on July 6 for about 150 days; during that period the westbound ramp to I-74 will be closed for roughly 45 days and, later, the eastbound ramp for an additional 45 days. The council member said those closures will be staged so work on ramps occurs during the larger deck closure.
Mr. Nair added that beginning June 1 the Ohio Department of Transportation will install safety cables along the I-74 median in the Harrison area and will begin epoxy coating and painting on the 128 bridge, then continue west toward New Haven Road.
Why it matters: These are multi-week and multi-month closures on routes used by local residents and commuters; the announcements allow residents and businesses to plan detours and travel times.
