Santa Fe ISD extends memorial agreement, honors athletes and staff at board meeting

The Santa Fe ISD Board of Trustees approved a two-year extension to its agreement with the Santa Fe 10 Memorial Foundation on Wednesday, after the foundation told the board that fundraising shortfalls prevented the original timeline from being met. The board liaison said the foundation expects to have funds in the coming months and plans to break ground after final approvals.
Board President and liaison noted the extension is a continuation of an agreement the board previously approved and that the foundation will return with final project details once fundraising goals are met.
Before routine business, the board recognized a long list of student and staff achievements: junior high and high school track teams and individual record setters were acknowledged; the varsity baseball and softball teams were recognized for playoff appearances and district honors; and employees of the month across schools and departments were invited forward to receive certificates and medals.
Representatives from Serenity Daylight Lodge presented Miss Hannah Wilson of Cubet Elementary with the Lamar Award and a $1,000 teacher honorarium. "This is the Lamar award... the highest award you can get from a Masonic Lodge in public education," the presenter said, and presented a medal and certificate.
Dr. Bot and Ladonna Pratt of the Coastal Alternative Program (CAP) also exchanged thanks: Pratt identified herself and said CAP will relocate to Dickinson ISD but continue serving many Santa Fe students; she expressed gratitude for Santa Fe ISD's long partnership and support.
No members of the public signed up to speak during the public comment period. The meeting then proceeded through consent and regular agenda items and adjourned.
