The Vernon Township Council approved several routine consent resolutions and took two substantive votes during its Jan. 19 meeting.
Consent agenda: The council moved and adopted resolutions 25-289 through 25-299 as a package by roll-call vote. (The meeting packet contained the bills list and supporting documents.)
Resolution 25-300 (McAfee Village forbearance): Council considered and adopted Resolution 25-300, which puts a three-month forbearance/pause on any condemnation action relating to certain municipal-held delinquent liens in the McAfee Village redevelopment area. The municipal attorney explained that, while emergency or time-sensitive items can be placed on the open agenda, the resolution was intended to pause condemnation activity while the council finalized related matters. The motion to place Resolution 25-300 on the floor was moved by Mr. Higgins and seconded by Mr. Sparta; the matter passed on a roll-call vote with all members recorded as voting yes on the action.
Ordinance 25-16 (DPW administrative code amendment): The council opened the public hearing on Ordinance 25-16 (amending the Vernon Department administrative code, chapter 250) and placed the ordinance on the floor. The council voted to adopt the ordinance establishing a $0.50 per-gallon charge for motor-oil disposal; roll-call votes recorded members as voting in favor.
Other formal actions: The clerk and council also placed the executive-session minutes (Oct. 16) and regular meeting minutes on the floor for approval and approved those items. The bills list was reviewed and discussed as part of the consent-item handling.
What happens next: The municipal clerk will record the ordinances and resolutions as adopted and the administration will proceed with ordinance implementation as directed (for example, setting up the motor-oil disposal collection process under Ordinance 25-16).
